On Thursday, Nov. 7, CAL FIRE personnel conducted a vegetation management burn on Mankin Flat, off the Davis Spur Fire Control Road, northwest of Three Rivers. Firefighters ignited the 150-acre burn at 10 a.m.
CAL FIRE personnel will continue monitoring the site, which is located in a remote area between North Fork Drive and Dry Creek Drive, for a few days after the burn is completed.
CAL FIRE intends on modifying fuels with the vegetation management burn to reduce invasive vegetation and enhance the natural habitat of the oaks native to the area. The vegetation management burn will improve rangeland allowing more grass and other herbaceous flowering plants to grow.
It’s possible some smoke could waft over the western hills of Three Rivers and be seen and smelled in town for the next several days.
