DUI factors into rollover

It is in this notorious series of s-curves, .2 miles up canyon from the entrance to Deer Canyon, where the most recent rollover accident occurred on Friday, December 18. The Visalia motorist went airborne, rolled over and landed in the trees on the step riverbank. DUI was a factor in the solo vehicle crash.

On Friday, December 18 at 9:25 p.m Brett Eagle, 39 of Visalia was driving his 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup westbound on Highway 198 when he crossed the shoulder became airborne and rolled over.  The crash occurred .2 miles above the entrance to Deer Canyon. DUI factors into rollover

The pickup landed in a cluster of trees 30 feet below the roadway. It’s not known how long the injured motorist remained in the pickup or when he crawled out or was extricated. According to Officer Liles of the Visalia CHP, the details of the accident are incomplete. The investigating officer has until December 28 to complete the report. DUI factors into rollover

Eagle, who had been transported via ambulance to KDMC in Visalia for treatment of a head injury and lacerations to his legs, was contacted by a CHP officer while hospitalized. The injured motorist was charged with misdemeanor DUI and if convicted, the severity of the sentence will be determined by his driving record.

That curvy stretch of Highway 198, above the Deer Canyon turnoff, has been the scene of dozens of rollover crashes. Most of the accidents occur at night and the majority have DUI as a factor in the cause.
