January 2, 2021— Rangers responded to a report of a motor-vehicle accident on Potwisha Grade. Rangers arrived and observed two vehicles that had simultaneously lost their brakes. No injuries; property damage only.
December 27, 2020— A 13-year-old male slipped on ice at the Lower Sherman parking area and likely broke his wrist. He was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital. It was a busy New Year
December 29, 2020— Rangers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at Lower Sherman parking area at approximately 6 p.m. A truck with disabling damage was located but the driver and vehicle left the scene prior to ranger arrival. It was a busy New Year
Kings Canyon National Park
December 31, 2020— Rangers responded with Ambulance 5 to a report of a person that slipped on
the ice and had a laceration on his head as a result. The patient was treated on scene and
transported to a medical facility by private vehicle.
January 1, 2021— A vehicle lost control and went into a snow berm on the Grant Tree
Road. There were no injuries. Insufficient tire tread and excessive speed were factors.
January 1, 2021— Multiple contacts were made for closure violations (sledding in closed areas),
littering, and unlawful food storage.It was a busy New Year
January 1, 2021— Big Stump Picnic Area, Columbine Picnic Area, and the Grant Tree parking
areas reached capacity with heavy visitation.
January 2, 2021— The Grant Tree Road had to be shut down intermittently due to significant
visitation and not enough parking.
January 3, 2021— Rangers assisted Fresno County SAR for a missing person on the park
border toward Sequoia Lake. The person self-evacuated after dark.
January 3, 2021— Rangers responded to what was reported as a “three motor-vehicle accident” but it
turned out to be a vehicle with a flat tire blocking traffic. Traffic control was provided.It was a busy New Year
Ash Mountain waived 713 vehicles through the entrance station Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; wait time was about 45 minutes.
