Dear Three Rivers Community Members:
I am writing this email to personally invite you to two very important meetings of the School Site Council (SSC) Board and the Three Rivers School Board of Trustees. The SSC meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 27, at 3:30 p.m., and the next TRUS Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the TRUS Library. We hope you can attend one or both meetings.
It is the beginning of 3rd quarter, and it is time to start looking ahead and planning for the 2020-2021 school year and beyond. The boards will be discussing the budget and possible necessary budget reductions for now and the future, and they would appreciate your input. Letter from the TRUS
We will be looking at revenues and expenditures, enrollment and average daily attendance (ADA), ending fund balances, deficit spending amounts, costs for salaries and benefits, and operating costs for the last 10 years, as well as projections for the next two years. The TRUS board is considering all possible budget reductions, large and small, in order to reduce deficit spending and remain solvent.
We have been deficit spending fairly consistently for the last 8-10 years and with that comes a decline in our budget reserves. The board feels it is time to actively address and eliminate the deficit spending and they want your input. Letter from the TRUS
The budget is a fluid document that changes from year to year and sometimes in the middle of the year. Changes are based on enrollment, ADA, and decisions made in Sacramento and Washington.
We enjoyed single-grade classrooms for a number of years, but for the past two years we have had a combination classroom. It may be time to consider having more than one combination classroom.
Based on our current ADA, we cannot support single classrooms with a small class size. These are tough decisions, and we hope you will share your thoughts. Letter from the TRUS
There will be more opportunity for discussion at the School Site Council meeting on January 27. Members of the public are welcome to make comments at the TRUS Board of Trustees Meeting, while discussion occurs only among the trustees.
We have weathered tough times before, and we will do so again. We all have the same goal: to provide the best education possible for all the students at Three Rivers School. Together we can make this happen.
We hope to see you at one or both of the meetings; however, if you can’t make either and want to give input, please stop by and talk, write an email or note, or make a phone call to me. I will make sure your input gets to both boards.
